St. Louis's observation deck
The Gateway Arch contains America's strangest observation deck: a curved room 630 feet up inside a stainless-steel curve, reached in five-person tram capsules that crawl up the hollow leg. The windows are narrow slots you lean into, looking straight down at the grounds or east over the Mississippi. It is a National Park, and it is priced like one.
How to choose in St. Louis
Book the tram online in summer — capacity is fixed by 1960s machinery and cannot flex. Skip it if enclosed spaces are a genuine problem: the capsules are tight and the ride is four minutes each way. The museum underneath is free and worth an hour regardless.
